Organized jointly by NEREUS (Network of European Regions Using Space Technologies) and Basilicata, the hosting region, this prestigious event is scheduled to take place on September 28th-29th, 2023, in the picturesque city of Matera, located in the heart of Basilicata. Conference language will be English/Italian (simultaneous interpretation).
Focused on the use of space data for tourism and agriculture the European Regional Symposium brings together the different layers of the regional space community. Building upon the exchange of regional best practices and success stories, the event provides regions with a platform to share knowledge and develop robust partnerships and interregional cooperation. This collaborative spirit is pivotal in unlocking the full potential of space assets and innovative technologies, which have proven to be game-changers in various regional contexts, foremost in tourism and agriculture.
It stands out from other similar events by offering tangible insights and concrete use cases in both the public and private sectors while stimulating the dialogue between service providers and administrations. Over the course of two days, the event will feature an array of high-level speeches from the EU and regional level, panel discussions, and presentations.
Following the conclusion of the symposium, a unique opportunity awaits attendees: a visit to the Italian Space Agency’s “Giuseppe Colombo” Center for Space Geodesy, scheduled for September 29th at 14:30. Complimentary transportation will be arranged for registered participants. This visit offers a firsthand experience of the main ASI (Agenzia Spaziale Italiana) operation center, located right in Matera, and provides a deeper understanding of Italy’s contributions to the field of space science and technology. Finally, a social event will be organised by SPARKme Space Academy il Museo della Scienza di Matera. The Academy is the result of the SPARKme Project, kicked off in 2018 and realised with the support of the Italian and European Space Agencies.
As the space industry continues its rapid expansion, this symposium serves as a significant milestone and a paradigm for other regions seeking to bolster their space communities, develop strategic initiatives, and pave the way for future endeavours.
