The Podkarpackie region successfully hosted the 2nd Learning Deep Dive for the SATSDIFACTION project on February 13th and 14th, 2024, at the Podkarpackie Innovation Center in Rzeszów, Podkarpackie (Poland). The region designed a comprehensive agenda focused on exploring the potential of satellite data for advancing renewable energy sources (link).
During the opening session, distinguished figures including Władysław Ortyl, Marshal of the Podkarpackie Region and NEREUS Vice-President, Michał Pilecki, Director of the Regional Office of the Polish Space Agency in Rzeszów, Professor Andrzej Majka from the Ignacy Łukasiewicz Rzeszów University of Technology, and Michał Tabisz from the Podkarpackie Innovation Center emphasized the significance of regional collaboration in leveraging space technologies for sustainable development. Marshal Władysław Ortyl highlighted how initiatives using satellite data enhance economy, social development, and capacity building skills.
The program continued with a press briefing where Mirko Mazzarolo, the project coordinator, explained the objectives of SATSDIFACTION and Podkarpackie’s role in enhancing its climate strategy by integrating satellite data. Margarita Chrysaki from NEREUS highlighted the contribution of projects like SATSDIFACTION to regional growth and development.
The first day featured two key learning sessions. The first session explored the potential of the Podkarpackie Region in unmanned systems and space technology clusters, while the second session focused on tools, needs, and experiences related to national satellite information systems and their practical application. Notable speakers from academia, government agencies, and regional development bodies shared insights on the use of satellite data, drone data, and artificial intelligence in public administration.
The day concluded with discussions on renewable energy sources, climate strategies, and the role of remote sensing data in driving sustainable energy initiatives.
The second day included discussions on cutting-edge applications in public administration, such as space technologies in modern agriculture and spatial information infrastructure integration. A study tour of the hydroelectric power plant in Solina showcased the use of renewable energy sources in the region.
Project partners also visited a wind farm near Rymanow, further exploring renewable energy usage. During the visit, Mr. Wojciech Farbaniec, the mayor of the Rymanow Community, extended a warm welcome to the partners to the final networking dinner.
Overall, the event increased the visibility of the project and its activities, attracting stakeholders and fostering regional development through the utilization of satellite data.
