The International Astronautical Congress (IAC) 2024 proved to be an inspiring experience, where representatives from European regions and members of NEREUS, including members of the Earth Observation group, attended to present innovative projects, expertise, and strategies in space technologies on behalf of their regions. Margarita Chrysaki, NEREUS Comm/Policy/Project officer represented the Network on this occasion to promote the OCEANIDs project in which the Network is a partner.
Regions such as Piemonte, Veneto, Catalonia, Puglia, Emilia-Romagna, Madrid, Occitanie, along with associate members such as CNES, the University of Torino and Politecnico di Milano, demonstrated their commitment to pioneering the use of space capabilities across sectors. Each region shared unique insights into their contributions, whether through satellite technologies, Earth observation tools, or advancements in sustainable space applications that directly address regional and global challenges.
In addition to highlighting European achievements, #IAC2024 was a powerful platform for expanding alliances beyond Europe, allowing for invaluable knowledge exchange with global space communities. This collaboration will no doubt strengthen mutual growth in space exploration and innovation.
This year’s IAC brought together space experts, emerging entrepreneurs, talented students, and established industry leaders—all unified by a shared vision of advancing space for the common good. NEREUS emphasized the regional dimension and the benefits of space addressed to the citizens.
